D?tente would give solar industry a ray of hope

Last week the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) launched an appeal against the High Court ruling that the Government's feed-in tariff (or grant) cuts for the solar industry were "legally flawed". This appeal could well be overturned resulting in further confusion and yet another mad flurry of solar installations before the eventual and inevitable FIT cut.

Alan Proto, managing director of Green Homes Company, a top 10 UK solar panel installer, is calling for a détente between the solar industry and the DECC, which is needed to restore confidence in the solar sector for consumers and investors. I must say I agree with him.

The continuing row about the level of tariffs is a distraction from the fundamental benefits that solar energy can bring to consumers, the economy and the environment and both sides should be working to bring an end to this uncertainty.
